When I was little I wanted to be a teacher. I know that when we had career day at school in kindergarten.. or well dress up like what you want to be when you grow up I wanted to dress up like a teacher but apparently my mom wasn’t creative enough to dress me up like one (which really how would you do that lol) so she made me wear a little nurses outfit lol.
I was always obsessed (and still am if you know nothing about me) with little house and laura was a teacher and all of that too. When I finally went away to school I don’t think there was ever a question of what I was going to BE when I grew up. I don’t know WHY exactly that is what I wanted to do , but it was .. I think because I always really liked younger kids and I LOVED playing school/office and all of that kind of thing. I had teachers that would give me their old work sheet copies when they made too many or did cleanouts!
This makes me a little sad to write about because I was about a year off from my teaching degree when I had to come home from Appalachian and I ended up getting married and I never go the chance to finish it. Sure, I got my medical office admin degree, but .. That isn’t the same to me. I like to finish things I start. I would probably never get an actual teaching job but I would like to be able to finish it. I don’t know what it would even involve at this point… It has been about 10 years and I would possibly have to take stuff over! If it was only the “Blocks” (Appalachian does their final 2 semesters in what is called blocks) I would consider it.
My mom wanted me to finish it up at UNCC and I was totally not into it by any means. If I am going to have an actual degree in teaching it is going to be from Appalachian state university. They have always been known as the teaching college/school and It just means that much to me to finish it there. .. esp. since the curriculum is so different at UNCC.. I would have had to redo tons of stuff because it wouldn’t transfer and basically start over in lots of areas! It really does mean that much to me.
It is something I would like to explore in the future though.. I was to the point where things were actually getting fun where you were getting to go observe at schools and even teach lessons at the schools when I had to quit 🙁 If you want to know why I quit it is because I had to live off campus and my mom was paying my rent at my apartment and she got hurt at her job so.. yeah. I had planned to get a job (hello salvation army) and make enough for rent/living expenses and my dad was going to pay my tuition.. but I met David ha ha.
