It’s a fact that we are the smartest living beings on this planet; our brains are pretty darn fast. We often look at other animals in the world and see them as brainless buffoons roaming around because some of them act as such! A dog, however, well, that’s a smart little thing. Sure, they sometimes do stuff that we cannot explain, but, on the whole, they know what they want, and they’re pretty intelligent when they want to be!
If you have a pet dog, then you’ll know just what kinds of tricks they pull, and how they behave a lot of the time. You’ll also know that their intelligence will increase if you want it to. Much like humans, dogs can be taught new things all of the time, and lots of it will stick with them! It’s all how you behave, though. Your dog’s brain power will get a boost if you’re a responsible and loving owner who guides them along the way. Want to know a few ways you can increase your pup’s intelligence? Well, here are four:
Don’t Let Them Sit Around
If you let your dog idle and be a lazy bones for the majority of its life, then it’s not going to pick up anything useful. Much like humans, dogs need to be proactive and take in the information around them. If they’re led around all day, then all they’re going to know about it how to lie around the house!
Head Out On Frequent Walks
Following on from the previous point, you’ll probably need to take them to all kinds of areas. Again, experiencing all kinds of things will make them more intelligent. Going out on walks is fine, but you’ll probably need to head to different locations so that they can experience all kinds of new surroundings. The same thing over and over again won’t be as beneficial.
Train Them
This is a pretty obvious point, but we’ll make the point just in case! If you want your dog to become smarter, then teaching them new things will help you accomplish that desire! You don’t have to be an expert dog trainer to teach your pet new things, which is handy! It’ll take a little while, but if you keep the activities and games up, then you’ll have a genius on your hands in no time! If you ride through the storm of failure and frustration, you’ll both come out on the other side with all kinds of tricks and knowledge.
You could also take them to a genuine trainer if you feel they need to have a little more work! There are facilities out there that cater to whatever you wish. They’ll learn all kinds of things, and they’ll become more obedient along the way.
Keep Their Energy Levels Up
Much like humans, dogs are going to need the energy. Their brains and their bodies won’t function as well if they don’t have the food, water, and sleep they need. Obviously, feeding and housing your dog properly is a given, but make sure you’re monitoring what they’re eating and how they’ll well their shut-eye is!
