I can remember going to the library right up the road when I was pretty young… I can vaguely remember getting a library card too. I am talking about the library cards that were paper and had metal little squares in them- does anyone remember those? I remember only being able to check out like 7 books at a time but the librarian quickly realized my love for reading, the speed I did it at and then they told me I could check out however many I wanted!
I liked when the library was at this location because it was in this older building that is a pawn shop or a computer store I believe now (I’ll have to pay attention when I go by there again) and there was there were like 2 rooms of books. Of course we are only a branch library so we didn’t have near as many books as the one in town , but it was neat to think we did! It is funny because I was just thinking the other day about how it seemed like we had way more books back then, but I was a little kid so…
The library moved when I was in about 5th or 6th grade to a little bit closer to my house – kind of in the middle of where I lived as a child and where I live now. I remember actually volunteering a few times and that was pretty fun! Mary & Irene were my librarians forever and Mary had a twin -which reading sweet valley books I thought that was cool- I actually met her twin one time and that was really cool!
I also used to love the book mobile, and when I was in high school I was a library assistant for a semester. .. it would have been more fun if the librarians we had in high school weren’t kinda.. well.. I don’t know the right word lol.
The library moved again Several years ago and I had never been but a handful of times until last summer when I started going with my mom. When I lived in town I had a library card up there and I used to actually go there to access the internet for a while after David got together because we didn’t even have my computer for a few months/internet- that is so crazy to think about now! Anyways I got a library card last summer and it is all fancy and there is even a keytag one.
I also worked in the library at college as a paid position almost 2 sememsters when David and I were first married- back when I walked to school! I loved it but I didn’t get a lot of hours and the hours I got were not busy at all and then I had a problem where I had an appointment and the library lady lost her stuff at me because I had “missed so many days” which were like maybe 2- when I Had one of my cervical cancer surgeries and a follow up!
So , yes the library has been a big part of my life for sure!
