Most of you all well know by now I am an old school blogger who started blogging before it was ever called blogging- started out with soap opera fan sites and kind of evolved from there. I don’t subscribe to the google gods and bow at their feet with do follow/no follow. I figure I pay for the blog name and hosting and it is MY blog- not googles…I think I have wrote about that several times over the years. In the long run the majority of my traffic doesn’t come from there and..guess what there are other search engines out there that don’t tell you how to run your stuff! It is shocking I know!
I did cut out the Adult reviews on this site years ago- and I pretty much stopped them in general – though I do have a 4 in 1 for Adam and Eve to write on Grits-Reviews. If you paw back through the archives you will find some old Eden Fantasys ambassador posts and maybe even a few random adult reviews even though I moved most of them over to Grits many years ago.
I did that because I can see where that would be a problem for lots of other brands to work with me- Sex is such a taboo subject even in this day and time that you can’t even write about it on your blog you know. You have to be all “family friendly” which I think is a load of crap, because who in the heck sits and reads a blog with their family but.. in the scheme of trying to work with brands and what not,I did conform on that note.I think of myself as a fairly open person and actually I used to be a lot more detailed back when I had my other blog years ago..
Anyways that is the only thing that I have filtered off this blog. I kind of laid down on posts that had to do with David and I having any sorts of problems, me having problems getting pregnant, posts about my sleep problems other than general ones and money related problems because those seem to be topics that bring out the trolls for me.I guess I came to a point where I figured some things aren’t everyones business!
I might randomly mention those things but I don’t get in depth.. for the most part I have a MY BLOG MY RULES mentality. It works for me. It has been many moons since anyone mentioned that I had something “taboo” on my site and they couldn’t work with me.
When I started this blog it was basically for a place to write about daily life and share pics- just like old time blogs usually were. I did evolve to the reviews.. but basically that is what it still is for me. I just mix in reviews in when they come along. Sometimes they come along in big bursts and sometimes they are far and few between. Right now for example- I have made a personal choice to slow them down for the summer. I have a couple things in the works for later this year and other than that I don’t even know if there will be anything. I don’t even have any requests on pitchrate or profnet right now and haven’t for weeks.
A pet peeve of mine is when a blog is covered up only in reviews or paid posts .. that is why I usually intersperce the heck out of those posts with blog prompts, ramblings posts, picture posts, etc. I also can’t stand for the last post I write – the one on top – to be a sponsored post. That is just me though. So if there is a post that goes up that someone might not like it likely wouldn’t show up on my main page for very long.. I have pages and pages of archives after six years!
I am also a person who only pitches out for things that we can use/need/want. For example -the food posts? you don’t know how many times when we were low on cash /food we had snacks to get through and the meal subscription boxes really helped too! The Alcohol ones? when my mom is out of wine (and no I am not the only one who drinks her wine) I have those to float me along…
In 6 years – The blog turned 6 last week on May 03 other than warding off trolls and leaving out the adult things – I didn’t think I would ever be criticized for my choices of what to write for a review. Sure I get pitched for things that don’t fit or that I don’t think are worth my time. I am kind of limited because I don’t have children as well. ..and for some reason pet stuff isn’t something I get pitched for or find anyone to work with for me.
I did however get criticized for my choice for the “period panties” post. A post that I have NOT EVEN WRITTEN yet. I had it written over there on the side bar (Thinx)Watch out because if you don’t like that I am also getting a Tushy to review! (It is bidet) I am basically getting told that I shouldn’t mix in FEMALE HYGEINE on my blog! I am a female right? I have wrote about REUSABLE pads before- I think I can write about female issues ??? That doesn’t even make since AT ALL. People write about things that are way more “taboo” than that on a daily basis so I don’t see why it would be a problem. it just totally came at me out of left field on this one!
I was told that since Especially when I am writing about food and drink that it doesn’t mix well? My site is as random as it comes- doesn’t fit in a niche and .. its just ME- and if those are things that I think are ME I should be able to write about them no?
I don’t know but it flew all over me in a bad way and I Just had to sit and write that down. I was seriously on my way to the mailbox and to get a few other things done but I thought it might make me feel better to get that out! I am not even going to turn comments on on this post- I don’t need any hateful back lash and you aren’t going to change my mind.
