So a couple of weeks back I learned that you can make hamburger meat in the crockpot without having to brown it first! (Thanks Jenn!) I Always thought it was totally pointless to stand and brown something when you are going to turn around and cook it all over again for several hours, and I cook other meats in my crockpot without cooking them first! Turns out if you are using a high quality beef it really isn’t necessary! It is mostly pre cooked when you want to drain off the grease and such you might get with lower quality hamburger! Most of my hamburger comes directly from a processing place..as in my parents usually buy half of a cow every fall and have it done up. They don’t put any additives and all that in, so it is pretty natural that way.
Anyways I only eat Chicken and Beef when it comes to meat. I hate fish, I don’t do pork and I simply don’t like turkey. The thing is though…I HATE cooking hamburger. I mean DETEST. Why? I hate the smell! I do not know why but it is just so overpowering. If I smell it it makes me all nauseous and then I can’t hardly stand to eat it, no matter what I am making with it. Also? It make such a freaking mess on the stove and everything.
Yesterday though, I got the idea to just make it straight up in the crockpot. Last time I made tater tot casserole, but this time I wanted to do it plain.
IT WAS AWESOME. It didn’t smell. It didn’t have a really strong HB taste, it was really tender, not very greasy and clean up was as simple as throwing my crockpot liner away! I know it takes longer to make this way, but for me it is worth it 🙂
Anyways, I love it and I just had to share 🙂
