I don’t have any human children, just the fur babes, but I do remember being a child and wanting this toy or that toy and getting a spill about how it was “too expensive” and that I would have to wait for it to come to the thrift shop or maybe we would find it at a yardsale. Of course, by that time – if it ever came along- it was long out of date. Most people assume that since I was a only child that I just got whatever I wanted, when I wanted- but that was far from the truth! I mean I am not going to lie, I had nice things and lots of things-I still do- but like I said they always were from thrift shops and yardsales- which is fine- but sometimes it would have been nice to have some of the things that everyone else had.
There is a company called Pley which is an awesome alternative to having to tell your kids NO because of not having enough money, or the fact you might feel (or even know) that even after spend all that money on the latest and greatest thing that they just have to have, that they will quickly tire of it and toss it to the side. I know that I am bad to do that with things even now- like oh that phone isn’t what I thought , and EW what was I thinking when I bought this *insert item here* Sometimes I think if I had the option to try things for a while it would be better off- so I like the idea a ton.
Another thing I like about Pley, is that they are encouraging *actual play* not playing in the since of gadgets and electronics which is a huge pet peeve of mine- people using electronics to essentially babysit their children. I guess it is because I am old fashioned and I grew up in a time where even watching tv more than just a little bit was frowned upon unless maybe it was rainy and you couldn’t play outside or maybe you were sick or something like that! I have a really hard time when I am out in public and see someone hand their child a tablet or some sort of electronic gadget instead of sitting there and talking to them- or that they are sitting there themselves on their phone- it just bugs me!
Pley has a huge catalog of toys, and the subscriptions start at only $19.99 a month. They have over 400 lego sets, and I saw tons of other things, including american girl doll clothing! It is a really simple concept- you pick the toy, you keep it as long as you want- and then you can exchange it for something else when you are ready- the shipping is free both ways. Also, when you rent Pley donates a toy to underprivileged children! As I always say when I find a company that I would likely be using anyways- and then they have a donation component to them- I always think that is a great thing.
You probably have a few questions about Pley- and here are a few more highlights about the service that might answer them for you- they were some of the points that I thought were the most awesome!
– you can have the option to buy the toy if your child just absolutely is in love with it, and can’t part with it
– missing pieces ? normal wear and tear? no worries!
– the toys are sanitized with eco and kid friendly solutions
I think that the Pley service is an awesome concept – a way to save money, a way to not have a ton of toys laying about that your child might not even care about in the long run. I also like the variety of toys- and the unlimited exchanges so that your child can evolve their experiences. I really love the concept that they are ACTUAL toys that encourage children to be children as well! I know that one day when I might have children I will be trying out Pley- and I will be recommending it to my cousin and his girlfriend for their little one (he’s the only young one we have in the family anymore!) I might even have to check out some of those american girl clothes for my american girl doll 🙂
