A few years back, right after we moved to our current apartment I started having these really random episodes of not being able to breathe properly and I really didn’t know what was up with it, and I really didn’t think that it was too awful serious because I didn’t have any reason to think that it wasn’t just totally random- and I really just thought it might even be some what normal to sometimes just feel like my “wind was behind me” I had had it happen before over the years, but it became SUPER frequent and I even thought (and still think) that going from living in places without carpet to somewhere with carpet might be a factor.
One particular night it got SUPER SUPER bad and I ended up spending the whole middle of the night until David left for work in the recliner with Sam (people can say what they want about my evil cat but he does care about me at least!) David had been so worried about me that he had tried to call me and check on me and when I didn’t answer (I had my phone on Silent and had finally fell asleep) He came home to check on me.. and I did pretty well- until THAT EVENING and I started getting panicked and my mom and dad actually went to walgreens and got me some primatene (the pills) after talking to the pharmacist.
I ended up finding an inhaler at walmart that worked pretty well until it broke about a year later- that is when I finally had to end up going to the dr and figure out what was going on…. I had been lucky because there had been some SUPER BAD episodes.. but they seemingly came in around October and by the spring.. they kind of didn’t happen anymore.
There have been SEVERAL things in addition to my prescription inhaler that have been a big help with minimizing the attacks/symptoms including a my purmist (steam inhaler thing) different essential oils (breathe blend, eucalyptus, peppermint) vaproizers (I do NOT have good luck with these. I think we have literally burnt out over 5 of them) using really good air filters (which I always did do that) allergy medicine (I have to take year round now!) to just name a few things. We had tried an air purifier at one point and I really liked it but the filter for it was like SUPER DUPER over priced and I ended up not having one for the longest time…
Then I got pitched from IQAir right about the time my Asthma likes to generally start up back early in the fall, about doing a review of a couple of their products including an Air Purifier and I could literally NOT respond fast enough! I also couldn’t get to the door fast enough to get the package when it was delivered (the second time- I missed the first one because I believe that my mom and I were out couponing the first time!) Then, I ended up not getting it set up for a while because David wanted to wait until he had our room EXTRA SUPER CLEAN before we put it in here (Oh, and we wanted to set it on top of the fireplace heater and at that point we still had out our fan!) I mean David is extra special clean to start with , and as you know it is a running joke that he’s going to clean away all the good stuff and that is what is going to kill us both lol.
Now, Most people would probably stick the Atem Desk Personal Air Purifier on their desk(obviously, lol).. and I would be one of those folks- however I don’t spend a whole lot of time in my office- even after I begged David to set it up for me in the guest bedroom… Oh, and my desk is literally this cute little table that literally only fits my big mac computer (I found this table with a free sign on the side of the road in my mom and dads subdivision) So.. since My fireplace heater is super close to the bed and has a spot where I can sit it without it getting hot or anything like that + I spend most of my time in the bedroom (not sure why, i think it goes back to when I was in college housing + used to be the only way I could watch youtube via the tv was in the bedroom- + it is cozy and such!) I guess I would just say as long as you have it close to you, and where you spend the most of your time that would be your best bet!
The Atem is very easy to set up and easy to use! You can control it via an app on your phone (which I haven’t set up yet , because I might be getting a new phone ) or you can simply tap the logo side of it and it will make a little music sound to let you know you are controlling it! There are 3 fan speeds to choose from. A little added bonus to me is when it is on and you are fairly close it does put off a bit of a “breeze” so even though I’ve already put my fan up for the year, I can still get a little cool when I might need it 🙂 Also, it is fairly quiet and I really don’t notice it when it is on as far as the noise goes!
I have had it set up for several weeks at this point, and I have noticed that we have less dust in the bedroom, and I have noticed that I haven’t had to use my inhaler as much or even use any of my other little tricks of the trade when it comes to trying to keep my asthma at bay (except taking my allergy meds because that is just something I can’t stop doing ) The Atem has a super awesome HEPA filter which can filter stuff that is even smaller than most viruses!
The
can be use pretty much anywhere, so it is a really awesome investment… not only can it be used on your desk or in a small space like your bedroom, but you can also buy adaptors to make it a personal air purifier that you can use for 12 hrs or a car purifier as well! Oh, and it doesn’t end there.. there is a case that you can get to be able to take it safely anywhere that you might wish to take it!
I am enjoying using it so far, and I love that the filter should last around a years time- and it doesn’t seem like it will break the bank or cost as much as the device itsself like the ones I have used in the past- It actually just costs a little more than my inhaler and for a year of use that seems like a pretty good deal. I also like that I might end up saving money on my actual inhalers and such since it seems like I might not need to use it as much… Oh and I am happy that it is helping me in ANY way with minimizing my symptoms, but honestly the results are better than I had expected.
I will be bringing you another awesome review from IQAir VERY soon so stay tuned! Also, Sam (my cat) super loves this purifier. It is like it brings him some sort of inner peace and it is super cute. I was going to put a pic of him enjoying it up but it looks more like he is enjoying the heater- but that isn’t the case so.. 🙂
