this is a review that relates to womanly issues, and even though it is not overly detailed if you are embarrassed by periods and things that are related to periods you might want to skip this one.
A few months back when doing one of those many time wasting scrolls through facebook(oh who doesn’t admit that it is a big time sucker deep down?)I came across an item that I thought would be awesome to review- I Have to admit that facebook is good to give me those sorts of ideas 🙂 So I sent out my pitch and was really excited to get a yes. I would have had this review up a while back but I had to have my body to cooperate with me, and it took a little while!

The Item is Thinx and they are underwear for “that time of the month” now I actually got blasted by a PR agent for even having the name of the item in my upcoming reviews section- because apparently this chick didn’t think I could mix it in on this blog with my other reviews of food, wines, tech, etc. I basically told her she could go fly a kite because my blog is not in a niche, and it is a lifestyle blog and if it applies to me and I can use it, I will review it!
I guess some people need to grow up and learn that having your period isn’t something you have to be hush hush about and it isn’t something to be embarrassed about! I kinda went on one of those MY BLOG ,MY RULES tirades I get on. I promise I am not going to go into some elaborate details or anything- just be straight forward and write what needs to be written!
Anyways, as a woman we all deal with different issues when it comes to having your period- I generally don’t have an easy go of it and spend lots of quality time curled up with a heat pad. Years ago I quit using conventional pads because they were eating me alive- especially when I had my HPV and all that related stuff (which you know thankfully now there is no evidence that even ever was an issue!)
Well,my mom remembered that when they were younger that they sometimes had home made pads, and of course my mom being suzy homemaker she made me a few. I was also lucky to be gifted some from a friend of mine as well. I really don’t care for tampons but I do use them. So when I saw that there were underwear specifically made for this purpose I knew it would be something I would want to check out!
Thinx can be worn by themselves (which I know conjures up a fear of free bleeding for some folks) or as a backup with your tampon or what have you. Now I had to wait a couple of months to actually review these because for some reason for 2 periods in a row I didn’t really bleed all that much at all- maybe a days worth and it was over and barley anything to talk about.
As far as how to use the undies -as in for a free flow or a backup you just kind of have to decide which way would work and be more comfy for you. I found for me the free flow was o.k for me, especially towards the end of my period and that they worked great for when you aren’t really sure when things are going to get going, or when things might be ending exactly. I am sure as time goes by I will feel even more comfortable with wearing them, especially out and about and when things are a little more flow-y!
They come in 2 colors – black and beige and in several different styles including everything from thongs to boyshorts and everything in between! Each style constitutes a different absorbency (For example your thong variety would be for your lightest sort of day which holds about 1/2 of a tampons worth, and then all the way up to hip hugger which holds up to 2 tampons worth!)
The undies are moisture wicking, anti-microbial, absorbent, and leak resistant and they are available in sizes from xs to xxxl so between the sizes and absorbency you should be able to find the perfect pair (s) for you!

As far as my colors and style I went with Black just because and I picked Cheeky (1 tampons worth) and the hip hugger (2 tampons worth) I just wanted a low end and high end (because you can pick 1/2 worth and 1 1/2 worth) because usually I am fairly heavy and honestly these are more my style of undies anyways.
As I mentioned before I just wore them straight out and I didn’t experience any smell or leaks or anything negative. It was just like a normal day wearing undies kind of thing. David didn’t even realize that was what they were at first then he’s like oh are those the ones you got for that time of the month?
I admit free bleeding was a bit – not weird but just different and I did wear a tampon one day with them and that was a bit more comfortable with me on that particular day.. like i say though really you have to “experiment” and see how you feel most comfortable! When you I was free styling it I never noticed wetness or anything like that it just went down into the underwears like magic!
I had no issues with my Thinx and I look at them just the way I look at using reusable pads as far as the upfront price being a investment! I like that they aren’t something you just use and throw away and keep spending money on for no reason. I don’t know the numbers right off but I once read about how much money and how many tampons/pads an average woman uses during her period it is was crazy high! I think if you are concerned about the environment and want an unique way that would change your impact over time this might be an easy thing for you to do- and well who doesn’t want to save money?
A great resource to check out is the Thinx FAQ on their website for lots more information and just browse the site in general. If you have any questions for me feel free to ask, and if it is something I can’t personally answer I will find out for you if I can!
