I received complimentary food and drinks in exchange for writing about this event as part of the carowinds carobloggers program, in which I received gold seasons passes in exchange for writing about various park events and experiences. All experiences and thoughts and opinions are honest and my own. Your experiences thoughts and opinions may vary.
A few weeks ago I had the chance to check out a brand new event at Carowinds that they ran for about 3 weekends Fri-Sun, called Bands Brews & BBQ’s! I got to go the first weekend that it started and I was pretty excited about it! Usually when people start talking about BBQ it is generally pork, which you may or might not know about me- I don’t eat pork! (Yeah, O.K… go ahead call me a picky eater I can handle it lol).
I was really excited because there were beef options, as well as poultry options (chicken, duck , turkey) so if there is a particular meat you don’t eat , you still had tons of options to choose from! Among each of the types of meats you had even more options like for beef you had brisket, ribs and that type of thing.
The event was set up around Harmony Hall so it was pretty easy to find (I know sometimes I tend to loose my bearings when I am at Carowinds – even though I have been several times and theres always a map lol)
Each meal in my opinion was really reasonably priced (around 6 for the beef options) and then they were pretty generous portions as well, and came served with cornbread and chow-chow- and for those who don’t know what chow-chow is , it is kind of like a spicy relish is the way I have always described it but technically it is just pickled various veggies 🙂 You also had the choice to get some banana pudding in a souvenir mason jar but I managed to not get any some how another!
There were tons of sauces to choose from, but I pretty well stuck with one that David tried early on in the day and it was pretty good- I generally would have picked something a bit more tangy , but I didn’t feel so adventurous on that day 🙂 I know that I tried the beef ribs and David tired the brisket and the turkey legs.I know we were there pretty early on and David said he wanted to try the duck but it was already sold out because it was really popular! I had meant to go back through one more time and do the brisket myself but the heat got to me!
There were lots of beers from several local breweries and there was a caro-brew but somehow another I missed that too! I tried about 2 or 3 different drinks but that caro brew would have been an awesome one to try! Also, was a huge variety of bands playing, but I was so involved in trying to get my food and drink and spend time with David, that I didn’t pay attention as well as I should have to!
This was the Inaugural event for Carowinds this year, so I am hoping that it will come back next year and I will have the chance to do a bit more sampling and enjoying and trying some different things! I liked how everything was set up and the variety and of course it was all yummy!
