Remember back in the summer when I fractured the devil out of my right ankle? Remember it took me 3 months for it to even BEGIN to heal? Apparently during that time I got the thought in my head that I would one day be brave and want to live dangerously again, because I applied to review heelys during this time frame! Now, what processed me to do this I do not know, but I did and I got approved! Oh, and don’t forget I have like no coordination what so ever !
A little background about me, your dear nichole here. I do not know how to skate. Period. When I was a little kid I had some of those old timey roller skates with the key that I would roll around in the house and hold on to furniture as I did it. Same went for rollerblades..though I did a little bit better with those for some reason? I still stuck to inside the house or on the porch!
When David was younger he taught little kids how to skate at the skating rink, and I actually think that his parents even MET at a skating rink. He swears up and down that if he can teach a little kid to skate, that he can teach me. You know the difference in me and a little kid? They are not as scared as me!
In case you have been living under a rock for several years, I’m sure that you know heelys are shoes that have a wheel in the heel that can pop out so that you can skate in them! Simple sounding concept right? Also, you can take the wheels out and use them as regular street shoes!
I got the heelys in pink & black wave style (I do wish I would have had the option to pick pink and white, but..pink in black is ok too!) Upon opening the box you will find your heelys, the wheels to put in them, instructions about putting in the wheels, and a little tool to remove the plug part where the wheels go!
As far as if the instructions to put the wheels in were helpful, I can’t say. The hubs put them in for me with out the instructions! By looking at the description though, and reading others reviews I think it would be best just to use basic common sense.
Something that alarmed me is all of the WARNINGS you get on these shoes! It didn’t help me not be scared to wear them lol. There are warnings all over the box, there is a sticker on the bottom of the shoes where you waive the right to sue heelys if you get hurt and everything! It is also worth mentioning at this point, while we are on the bottom of the shoe, it says Heely’s Ninja grip tread, which just made me smile.
The shoes themselves are fairly well made and fairly comfortable. You will also find a little how to heel booklet with more warnings (lol) and helpful little hints to get you going on your way!
So can Nichole heel? Sorta! Not like I’d run right out and pop my wheels out and start in the middle of walmart (which you shouldn’t do anyways lol) but even still I wouldn’t feel too comfy with doing it in front of anyone other than my hubs just yet. It isn’t hard really but I still have that fear of falling and getting hurt to overcome! I keep trying though, and I’m having fun just messing around with them!
