I have been a fan of photography and things related for as long as I can remember! I remember having a 110 camera and later on getting an upgrade to a 35mm one. My mom had a huge fancy camera with lenses and the like and she even used to photograph peoples weddings and all that good stuff. I also remember getting my first digital camera when they first came out! I think I was the first person in the family to switch over actually.
You know what I have fond memories of though? My friend when I was little was a little girl named Bethany and her mom had a polaroid and I thought that was the neatest thing ever because my mom had that fancy camera of hers and she was always taking pics and I remember even at that young of an age (3 or 4) having to send off the film and wait for the pictures to come back- I mean the horror right? and of course I was growing up WAY before the digital ones were on the scene at this point
I actually have a picture of Bethany and I waiting for a picture to develop from her moms Polaroid
Yes I am the fuzzy headed thing in white lol. She was all dressed up because her dad was the preacher at our church and since they were visiting I guess they dressed up and we didn’t lol.
So I tell you all of this information because it is relevant- at least in my opinion to lead into the latest and greatest review that I am bringing to you! I was more than thrilled to get the chance to get items to review from POLAROID! I was sent the Polaroid Cube Camera and the Polaroid Zip Mobile Printer! Aren’t they just spiffy?
I figured since this was one of those posts with more than one item the best way to do it is to just break it down individually, as per usual!
Polaroid Cube Camera- Specs
First up we have the Polaroid Cube camera which is cute as it can be- or as we say in my family “cute as a bugs ear” 🙂 This little camera packs a powerful punch! Also, you all know how I like unique things and I think that this well fits the bill! You can make Videos and take pics and you can choose from 720 or 1080 for your resolution. It accepts a micro sd card up to 32 gb, has a 35 mm lens, and a 124 degree wide angle lens as well! Oh and before I forget it has a magnet on the bottom so you can have all the fun you want with putting it on top of the fridge or something like that 🙂
What is in the box & other accessories available!
What is in the box? well your cube camera, obviously, a USB cord to charge it with,a quick start guide (it has pics that explain what the colors of lights mean, how to open it up to put in your micro sd card and how to turn it on and off and switch between modes)
Don’t worry if you can’t follow it from the get go, there is a users manual as well- oh and this nifty little pamphlet about all the accessories that you can get for the cube- there are 8 accessories available!1.Bumper Case 2.Helmet Mount 3. Monkey Stand 4.Waterproof Case 5. Water proof case and suction mount 6.Bicycle mount 7 Tripod Mount and 8. strap mount! That gives you tons of options for ways to use this cute little thing!
Getting Started & Use
I know that sometimes when I am getting started with something like this I will instead of wanting to read an user manual go search the web and see what someone says about how to get started and all of that good thing so- allow me to do that for you and maybe it will help someone in the future 🙂
First thing you probably want to do is make sure you charge it… you will want to find a coin and unscrew the back panel. Inside there you have the place to plug the cord, as well as where to adjust the resolution and insert a memory card. You can insert your card and put the back back on and it will be ready to go!
To turn it on you just hold the button down for a few secs! Then you decide between if you want to make a video or if you want to take a pic if you hit the button once that will take a pic and if you hit it twice that will start the video recording! To Turn the camera totally off just long hold the button. There is also some light color indicators that are helpful to know
Green- Good To Go
Red- Recording
Orange-SD Card isn’t in properly /battery is low
Red/Orange the sd card is at capacity
Thoughts & Takeaways
I really think this camera is nifty and with all the cute options for you to buy accessories I am sure there is something for everyone! The weird thing is to not have viewfinder of what you are taking a Picture of and that can prove a bit interesting both in a good way and a bad way! I know that there is an upgrade model that you can use an app with and it has wifi so I that would be a neat comparison for sure!
I am looking forward to showing it off at thanksgiving to the rest of my family. My friends and family who have seen it so far think it is just the neatest ever- who knows I might have to pick up some accessories for it!
The pics that come out aren’t half bad looking this pic is one I took on a cloudy day right here in the house in very little light:
It also has that cute bubble-ish effect too- this is a pic of all the cook books I have got off Amazon lately 😀
POLAROID ZIP MOBILE PRINTER
Take a breather and stay with me because I am also reviewing the Polaroid Zip Mobile printer in this post as well 🙂 I thought it best to keep them together since they came together!
David bought me a photo printer that is semi compact and portable when we first got married for christmas. I love it to death don’t get me wrong and I can print from everything from a flashdrive to an SD card but- I hate trying to remember to print on it every now and then and then you have to buy expensive ink and paper and on and on. Don’t tell but I don’t think I know the last time I printed on it, and it is likely dried up with the ink!
The Polaroid Zip Mobile Printer is pretty much as small of a printer as I think you are going to find, and sure the prints are only a 2×3 but they are really cute, and the paper is ZINK paper which means no ink needed and…if you want to you can peel the back off of the print and BAM hello sticker 🙂
Notice I said Zink Paper and you might be wondering what that is? it is paper that has the ink in it, and that way the only thing you have to buy for your printer is PAPER .. sure it is a bit pricey but I would honestly have to say in my opinion that it is worth it because of the convienence and the cute factor, plus you can make a sticker out of it and all of that good stuff!
Before we go any further you can use an android device or an apple device- I have both so either way you want to go!
So What is in the box? you get a USB cord, your printer, a pack of 10 sheets of the 2×3 paper and a user guide.
The printer works off of your tablet/phone/ipod via Bluetooth or NFC if you have something that is new enough to have that I didn’t try it on my ipod I just did it on my tablet and it had to be done via bluetooth! It wasn’t hard though!
To Use it you would simply want to charge it up of course, slide the top (look for the side that says polaroid) and load up your paper – there is a blue piece of card that has to go in there barcode side down but you can then load the paper on top. You can download the app, and then you can pair up your printer via bluetooth or NFC- there are easy instructions for that in the manual if you need help.
In less than 60 seconds after you hit print in the app you will have a printed pic!
The app has several features such as quick print- where you just straight up print your pic, edit print- where you can do some editing , secret view where you can insert a QR code to share your message with the people you want to share it with Collage mode where you can pick from several varieties of collages, and name card where you can use several templates to print out a card with your personal info to hand out!
I love the convenience of being about to print out my pics just like back in the day with Bethany’s moms polaroid camera. it is essentially the same concept! Best of both worlds for sure! I am very much looking forward to using this tons in the future and just covering everything in little polaroid prints 🙂
Summing it ALL Up 🙂
All together for someone like myself who loves pictures, taking pictures and the great option of being able to print your own pics instantly these are def. two perfect gifts. I know that these would appeal to a wide auidance – I have read a lot of people saying that they like the Polaroid Cube Camera better than that other really expensive active hd camera if you know what I mean.
I also don’t know who wouldn’t essentially like to be able to print their digital pictures straight on the spot in a printer that could easily fit in a purse with the Polaroid Zip Mobile Printer! Oh and you don’t need anything but your paper- no complicated ink and stuff to buy! I am really happy with the two and look forward to using them in the future A LOT!
