This is a review of alcohol, and you must be of legal drinking age to consume and enjoy alcohol in your country- in the usa this is the age of 21
Of course by now, you probably know that I love wine and that reviewing wine is one of my favorite types of reviews to be able to work on! This time around I am happy to be bringing you a review of 3 different wines, thanks to Santa Margherita wines! Santa Margherita Wines are an Italian based premium wine company that has been around since 1935! They have been based out of Veneto for the past 80 years and they believe that complements consumers’ lives and enriches their stories.
Santa Margherita wines also has family owned properties in 3 established growing regions in Italy: : The Adige Valley, The Hills of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene and the Chianti Classico Zone. Each property has winemakers who are dedicated to making high quality wines that stay true to Classic Italian traditions.
Pinot Grigio Alto Adige
The first wine I tried was a the Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio which is made in the Adige Region. Now you all know I am what most people would call a red wine person, but lately I have got to where there are a few different white wines that I am starting to like depending on who makes thems, and I have to say that this one fits that category. You also know how I usually think so called fancy wines are bitter- however that wasn’t really the case with this one
One thing I found absolutely fascinating about this wine- it is a white wine so you wouldn’t think that the grapes that use were- not red- but PINK! You all know how I am all about pink- and I didn’t even know there were pink grapes! They were the first company to be able to do this as well! Also,The wine is 12% by volume and ferments for 10 days.
Now back to talking about the taste- I found this to be a very clean, crisp and refreshing type of wine. It was pretty dry, and would well remind you of Golden Delicious Apples- which I didn’t get right away but when I read the tasting notes I was like YES THAT IS WHAT THAT REMINDS ME OF 🙂
Chianti Classico Riserva
Next up we have the Santa Margherita Chianti Classico Riserva. This was a red wine (YAY!) which was 13.50 by volume, and it is a mix of a few types of different grapes: Sangiovese (85%), Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). The fermentation of this one is temp controlled for 20 days and then it is aged in french oak barrels for 2 years.
This wine was very – vibrant is the word I think I am looking for.. like a strong taste but not in a bad way- but it made itself known if that makes sense? It kinda had a tiny bit of spice and a flowery type boquet going on for it. I liked it A LOT (of course- I don’t know if I have found a red wine I don’t like- well I take that back.. i had a pinot noir i didn’t like not that long ago)but I can’ really place you a real “flavor” for it.
Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene
This one is a mouth full no? 🙂 Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene is a white wine- that I am guessing you would say would be like a champagne type wine? It is fizzy and has one of those corks on it that you have to pop off- and they scare the heck out of me and I always have to get David to open them (these and those biscuits in a can -lol)
It is 11.5 by volume and I actually have this thing for fizzy wines but usually more those that are kinda for most people what would be considered almost too sweet- and/or would remind you of a soda! This wine is fruity but more like a light fruit taste of peach and cherry blossom sort of thing. I also thought that this one had a very clean taste as well.
Summing It Up
I was really impressed with these 3 wines from Santa Margherita, and I would def. try them again in the future. I like that it has such a rich history and I thought that not only was it a neat fact that the entire line of wines is available in 85 countries and also that the Pinot Grigio is the most requested imported wine in high end restaurants for the last 26 years! I also wanted to say that for me these wines would be ones that I would consider for special occasions as well! I hope that I can try more from their line in the future!
