So You know typically when I do a review for alcohol I am usually rambling on about wine! This time around though I got a chance to review what I affectionately call the “hard stuff” thanks to the folks at Soltado Tequila. Tequila is the main ingredient in my favorite mixed drink the Margarita so of course I wanted to be able to review some with it becoming all sultry outside already! I like nothing more than to sit out on the patio with my tablet and the bluetooth speaker and drinking something cold in the evenings! Oh, and sometimes I like to sneak some down to the pool in one of my water bottles!
Tequila has a weird history around my drinking circle- which is really just David, his dad , his brother and their friend Brad. I don’t know why exactly but my brother in law and brad will not touch tequila at all because of some bad experience that I don’t even know anything about- I think it happened one time when they all drank together and David and I were at my grandparents in Virginia. I keep telling them it isn’t like I am saying do shots when I offer them tequila- but they don’t want anything to do with it. Which , I guess I am fine with because it just saves more for me!
All About Soltado Tequila
The history behind Soltado Tequila is really fascinating, and there are lots of great tidbits but I am going to try to just hit some highlights!
First of all it is a SPICY Anejo Tequila that is almost like a bourbon because it is aged- for 28 months! It is made out of 100% blue webber agave and organic serrano peppers and cinnamon and made in small batches. There is also no added sugar!
the Serranos are organic, from a local farmer’s market, and the cinnamon is Mexican canela, highly regarded for its flavor in baking and recipes. It’s gluten free, non-GMO, and low glycemic.
Soltado’s Tequila is naturally sweet, because of where the agave come from-in the midlands of Juanacatlán, Mexico. The weather there can be extreme, ranging from very hot, dry days, to cool, damp nights. That puts stress on the plants, similar to how grapes grow for wine, and in doing so, the agave plants naturally taste sweeter. Tequila is also low glycemic, and naturally gluten free.
The tequila is also non-GMO Big corporate brands sometimes…use big corporate methods. Soltado’s farms use very earth-friendly methods to keep the plants healthy. Healthy plants = better tequila.
My Little Soltado Secret regarding the taste!
I have a little secret about the Soltado Tequila though, that I also don’t share because it saves more for me, and that is that it doesn’t have that “tequila-ish” really weird aftertaste if you know what I mean? I mean if you order a tequila based drink you can usually expect pretty much a tequila type taste and that isn’t the case with this one!
However,it is actually a good thing in my opinion because that isn’t really the most pleasant taste- if you don’t have a clue in the world what I mean it is kind of a biter bite and it kinda tastes like most tequila smells. That is the only way I can explain it lol.
The taste in general is awesome and I don’t think you would know you were even drinking tequila if you didn’t know from the get go! It is spicy but I always love spicy things so that works for me! I have to say that I would likely pick this over regular tequila because of it being unique and not having that weird after taste and whatnot!
A Few Recipes:
I personally have only mixed it in with margarita mix,and I want to try it in V8 but I haven’t had any fresh around since I have had the Soltado Tequilla, but I plan to get some when I eventually go to the grocery store! The awesome folks over there shared a few recipes with me and I figured I would in turn share a couple of them that I am hoping to try in the future!

Summing it Up
I am really enjoying my Soltado Tequila and I Hope to be able to try out some new recipes with it very soon! I love how it is different than the norm and doesn’t have that weird after taste I keep talking about! I also love how it is made with all natural ingredients. I also like that it is made from local ingredients that are from farmers markets and such. I can’t wait to enjoy it more in the future and maybe decide to share it with others if they will be brave enough to try it after their previous experiences with regular tequila!
