Another wine review you ask? Of course! There is nothing better than trying different wines in exchange for review! I think it is making me more well rounded wine wise- and maybe a smidge tipsy at the same time- that is why I made a new category to put the wine reviews in “The Tipsy Reviews” I am trying to go back through the blog and add the relevant reviews to that category 🙂 fun times! I especially like a nice cool crisp glass of wine in the evening, especially in the summer !
When one of my wine contacts asked if I would be interested in reviewing 2 selections from Sterling Vineyards  I was pretty excited- especially because 1 of the 2 was pretty much the most expensive wine that I have ever got to try- but I’ll get there of course! As always I will just break down the flavors and give my opinions and whatnot- this review will likely be a bit shorter than normal just because I only received 2 wines this time around and I am used to be breaking down about 4 or so at a time!
First up, I tried the Sterling Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc– I actually , for a white wine- you might or might not know I am more of a red wine gal- I actually have had Sauvignon Blanc before in a special edition from somewhere before and I really enjoyed it. I am actually becoming a white wine convert, because for some reason it seems to me they are a bit more light -and you all know I am seasonal with my foods so I think I am beginning to be the same with my wines!
It is a Floral and Peach sort of wine which I always like. You don’t have to have anything fancy to pair it with- a sandwich will do (I just wrote about sandwiches yesterday how awesome is that?) Â There is also a hint of honeydew (which is by far my favorite fruit, btw!) Â and even hints of ruby red grapefruit (another favorite of mine- but you have to have some salt on that lol)
This one wasn’t too awful dry, and wasn’t overly alcohol tasting- the ABV was around 13.5% Â I have found when it gets much higher in ABV it tends to get a little bit overpowering for me when it comes to a wine- but that is relevant for the next wine up for review!
Next up, I got the most expensive wine I have EVER had in my life to review- The Sterling Platinum which is a suggested retail value of $70! I generally stick with wines around the $10- $15 price point, and sometimes with a review I think maybe go up to around $25 or so, so this one was a treat for sure!
This one was a red wine, but it was a very WICKED WINE to me! It was very Dark, and the ABV was 15.5% and I have never had a wine with a ABV that high before. It was a pretty overpowering wine for me- now I wrote the other night that I did what I call corking a wine, which in Nichole world means the cork broke into the wine. Like I said now a days I am like a little cork never hurt anyone -used to be I would have poured it into a container and strained it through a coffee filter!
I had originally planned to pour a glass of this and sit and write the review of it while I was drinking it.. However since I broke that cork I ended up drinking the entire bottle- which it isn’t magnum or anything so I was like o.k 3 glasses- no biggie. However, I didn’t notice the ABV and ended up with the hangover from HELL- which took a good while to shake- and I hardly ever drink enough to get hungover so it was like YIKES!
This was a very dry wine and not very sweet. It has cocoa and espresso with black currant and very heavy black cherry. I won’t say that I hated it , but it wasn’t a favorite for me-I think I would have enjoyed it better if I wouldn’t have had the cork break and could have tried it over a few days and got a better conclusion!
