ME & Sleep & Various Beds I have had!
I know that one topic I tend to write about is my sleep habits- and they are off the chart and never the same two nights in a row! I have done a bit better than I used to, but I generally get into this whole I’ll sleep when I am tired and I’ll stay up when I’m awake- no matter what the clock says, and that tends to actually be my best practice! I just don’t stick to it because of wanting to get dark hours sleep (always the best!) and wanting to go to bed when David does most of the time as well. Oh and I love naps of course, but that has became something I rarely get to do!
Over the years I have had a few different types of beds- ranging from a water bed ( I slept in it for at least 10 years) Then I got a daybed as my first regular bed, but I didn’t have it very long- when we moved from the trailer to our house we had built I got my great grandmas old bed- and it was awesome! She actually missed that bed, and one time she came down and she slept in my bed and she kept saying how awesome that bed was and she wished it was hers- little did she know right?
The Mattress that I had FOREVER & Trying A Competitor to Nectar
David and I had that mattress when we first got married and kept it for a looong time (yeah, I know when it comes to a conventional mattress you aren’t supposed to keep them that long and all that!) but my grandma sent us another mattress that she had gotten some way or another and I just didn’t like it! We kept it though until last year and David started investigating why in the heck we weren’t either one sleeping good and it turns out that our bedframe was bowed and we had broke slats!
So, we decided we were going to have to get a mattress new for once and we decided to do a bed in a box. Now, I won’t mention to you what brand because it isn’t the one that I am writing this review for- but I will be doing a few comparisons!
Let me just say I didn’t love that mattress from the get go , but it was better than what we had so I just kind of tried to deal with it. I had tried to get several mattresses for review (I think I tried up to about 12) and had no luck.
Then, as luck would have it as soon as I quit looking, found the one we got and was “used to it” I got the chance to review a Nectar mattress. I knew that if it turned out we liked it better, we could just give the other mattress (or the Nectar depending on how it went)to my mom and dad or someone and either way it was worth trying!
A Mattress in A Box? Introducing Nectar!
The Nectar Sleep Memory Foam mattress came the day after David and I got back from the beach, and I don’t think that there could have been a better time for me to try a new mattress because I was so zonked and couldn’t really get any sleep -and believe me I had tried! As soon as David got it on our frame I was in it taking a nap! I just called that research 🙂
Now , in case you aren’t familiar there are a whole ton of mattress in a box companies out there and it is becoming quite the popular option for people. I had never actually had a say in what kind of bed I slept in or anything like that, so getting to experience the competitors mattress def. made me know what I wanted in a mattress and I was very hopeful that Nectar would be the answer!
The Nectar mattress comes right to your door via Fedex and it is quite neat to set up. I know that with our first mattress in a box I actually had my mom and dad come over and watch! This time around, I just made a video , which I will share with you in just a bit! Basically these sorts of mattresses are made out of different layers, and different types of memoryfoam depending on your brand.

A YEAR to Decide + Payments & Forever Warranty Oh My!
Another thing that makes Nectar different than their competitors (including the one that I had experienced) is that you get a WHOLE YEAR to decide if you like the mattress or not! I only had 101 nights, and by that point I was like well…. I guess?
Nectar also offers payment plans as well- which is a very handy thing as well! I mean you get a year to decide and then you can make payments too? what else could you want right?
Well add to that A FOREVER warranty! They are basically saying that if this is your kind of mattress and you love it then it should be the only mattress that you ever have to buy, and it should outlast you if you treat it right. Most companies only offer between 10-20 years.
Unboxing Video & Pictures!
I guess the best thing to show you at this point is that video- now keep in mind that I only had the one shot to make this video, and .I tried to show as best as I could it being opened and set up. I also totally didn’t realize there was a little tool that you can use to open the plastic with to be safer- as to not risk cutting the mattress but we didn’t see it till after the fact!
Also- It was horribly dark and rainy the day that it arrived so my pics and videos aren’t as good as they could have been otherwise! (Oh, and we don’t have an overhead light in our bedroom, how crazy is that?)

As far as that tool I was telling you about – and the paperwork – here are some pictures of that!
Here are a few more pictures of the mattress. Just laugh because we put ours on the frame upside down- the bottom part should actually say Nectar- we will rotate it around eventually but for now we just decided to leave it be 🙂
The Nectar mattress can be used on a platform, on a box spring, adjustable bases, etc- or even on the floor if you don’t have any of the above which I think is great- just in case you don’t have the extra $$ to spend on that sort of thing- it is just really a personal preference and you can always just use what you have.
So here comes the important part- what did I think of my Nectar mattress (And pillows)
My Nectar Mattress Experience (my top 3 things I was looking for I found 🙂 )
Well, To say I love it might be an understatement. I didn’t really know WHAT to think going into things since my other experience wasn’t so positive but I was hopeful that it would at least be different and hopefully in a good way!
How I sleep & being burrowy:
First of all I am a side sleeper/stomach sleeper. I also like to feel like I am sleeping in the bed not on top of the bed- I like to be very burrowy! David will pretty much sleep on whatever you throw and him no matter what- because he sleeps better than I do and pretty well falls asleep fast and stays asleep!
Our other mattress? I felt like I was sleeping on a 2×4 all the time! It was def a feeling of sleeping ON the bed and not IN the bed! The nectar mattress def. gives me the plush, sleeping in the bed, burrowy type feeling I need!
I liked not feeling stuck/trapped!
Sort of related- I like to be able to roll over & be able to get up easily. I always felt trapped in my other bed! It was almost impossible to turn over, and then when I had to get up in the middle of the night it was like an a 10 min adventure to try to get out! This mattress is a whole heck of a lot easier to get in the correct position and to get out of !
I don’t like to be hot when I sleep-
Our other mattress did that “sleeping hot ” thing. Now if you don’t know what that means -I live in the South. We pretty much don’t get cold weather except maybe 2 months of the year! Oh and the summers? HA 99 in the shade most times!
Now, granted it has been bit cooler than normal since I got my Nectar mattress but even on some of the cool nights I was sleeping hot on that competitor mattress! I don’t see if being a problem for me with this one though- I will try to update this when we have some actual hot weather and let you know if this holds up!
How about those Pillows?
Ok… Here is one of those weird Nichole facts for you- You know Me right? Well.. I don’t actually sleep on a pillow like a normal person. I don’t know how to explain it other than I kind lay AT the bottom of the pillow where most people actually stick their head up on the pillow.
I really don’t know WHY I do this- and I have tried to correct it but haven’t had a lot of luck. This is probably why I have a lot of sore neck problems and my arms/hands wake me up being numb a lot!
Anyways, I am still really picky about pillows. I really like these though- they don’t squish my ears and they are awesome about laying in bed and watching tv and reading and what not as well! They are REALLY heavy though- just as a random side note 🙂
A note about Smell:
One thing about Memory Foam is that sometimes it does this thing called “gassing” (attractive word right?) and that can lead to some smell- especially within the first little bit after you set it up/start using it and the pillows. As far as my experience I only noticed a TINY bit of smell and that was with the pillows and it wasn’t even much to talk about and was only for a day or two tops!
Summing It Up & The Current Nectar Offer:
So far, I am enjoying my Nectar Sleep Memory Foam mattress ,if you can’t tell! I have been sleeping quite a bit better and not waking up so much in the night- and it doesn’t seem like I am as sore especially in my neck like I was before. Also it seems like I am resting .a bit better! You spend at least 1/3 of your life in bed os you might as well make it count right?
I do totally recommend you of course research before you make a big purchase like a mattress- however with being able to get the 365 trial you would have a ton of time to decide.
Also Right now Nectar is doing a great deal of $125 off with 2 free pillows which is a $275 value so you might want to look into that as well!
