So in the last review that I wrote I told you all all about my sleep ritual and how I love making going to bed an “event” that I really look forward to all day long 😉 especially since I really don’t nap that much anymore- and a nap just isn’t the same as getting ready for a good burrow-y, relaxing sleep that night time can bring (well, when you are me that is sometimes not the case , but that is my mission at bed time 🙂 )
I have been REALLY lucky lately to get some really awesome things to review that involve relaxation and going to bed including sheets and even a new mattress. The latest thing I got to review though might be my absolute favorite thing ever- thanks to the awesome folks over at HoMedics!
I had been wanting a sound spa for quite a while. I had one years ago when they were first kind of popular ( I was probably in high school or early in college at the time) but it wasn’t anything all that great. Since I have had issues with my night time sleep for more years than I care to even think about, my mom had gotten me one for Christmas one year. It was alright but it was pretty much just a couple noises and it worked on batteries so it wasn’t really ever that exciting for me.
I have really got in the habit of having a noise in the background when I sleep, which is generally the fan. I do use it for the breezy coolness that a fan brings , but I have notice that on nights that it wasn’t really even that hot that I would still want it on for the noise factor. I also really like having it on during naps and in the mornings when David leaves for work reguardless of the heat factor.
This made me think maybe something with “white noise” or a sound spa might be something I might want to look into again… and then I found the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber scents and I knew that was something I would love to be able to check out, and I was beyond happy when I was able to get it to review! I was really excited because it was an all in one type of item- you can use it not only as a sound spa, but a diffuser (essential oils) it has lights, and you can even use USB / Bluetooth with it!
When I first got it I was a normal amount of excited about it , but after I started using the essential oils that I had got with it(you get a couple tiny sample bottles) I had totally fell in love! David actually ordered me a set of oils off Amazon, and now I want a diffuser for the rest of the house thanks to this!
I Love the way it looks
The soundspa is totally cute, and it is my favorite electronics color: WHITE! It is also this cute little shape that is almost a teardrop shape, and I love it. It fit in easily on my nightstand. I really love the whole aspect that it can be used for so many different purposes- those are always my favorite type of items.
Clock Function
I didn’t actually have a clock on my side of the bedroom, but now I do and it even has a dimmer on it so if you don’t want it to be bright or even want to see the time at all ( I know sometimes if I keep starting at the clock it can affect my sleep) It isn’t too awful bright even on the highest setting, and it is an orange color so it isn’t too hard on the eyes! You can also set an alarm so that is awesome as well.
Sounds
The Sounds with the soundspa cover a really good range. There are 6 sounds to choose from- you have a storm(which thankfully Marley, my dog, can tell is fake and it doesn’t freak her out, then there is a fire sound- this one kinda was one i thought was kinda odd at first but that is because I have had some issues where a fellow blogger died in a fire with most of her family earlier this year- I have just had this thing with fire.
Anyways I really like it because it is really good at making me feel warm on a cold night!. The next sound is the melody that reminds me of yoga music. It is actually my favorite. Next up we have ocean waves which is David’s favorite – i like it as well. Then there is like a babbling brook sound which I do like, but it makes me want to pee lol. The last sound is a white noise like a fan.
Diffuser
This is the unexpected part that I just fell in love with. There are so may possibilities for the diffuser from relaxation scents to even those that are helpful with things such as breathing when I have a little bit of asthma- like eucalyptus and such. the diffuser part is really simple to use you just take the very top part of the device off and put in some water and then a few drops of oil of your choice and then set the timer- you have a choice of 30 min, 60 min , 90 min or you can just leave it on continuously- when it runs out of water it will shut off!
Lights
I like the little bit of ambient light that I get from the soundspa. I am not a person who enjoys sleeping in a pitch dark room, and I actually have relied on street lights in the parking lot at various points in time to help me with my fear of the dark. When I was younger I had night lights and even slept with a light in another room on to help me combat my fear. Sleeping with someone does help, but having a light of any sorts near by really helps. This one is almost like a rainbow light show of 6 different lights. Or if you have a particular color you want to stop on you can do that as well. Hint- in my experience red is the darkest color.
USB/Bluetooth
If by chance you don’t find a sound you like, or you get sick of the sounds for the spa you do have the option that you can put it on bluetooth and use something off of your phone/tablet (there are several apps out there) or even if you have something like on a flashdrive you might want to use. Same goes if you might want to use it as a little mini speaker of sorts. I don’t have a speaker really in the bedroom, and sometimes when I don’t feel like getting out my bluetooth speaker or turning on the sound system in the living room I use this!
A Few Thoughts, A video, & a few pics
If you couldn’t tell by now I absolutely just rave about the HoMedics Soundspa Slumber Scents and I have loved all the relaxation that it has brought me at bed time. I love that I can use so many different essential oils/ essential oil blends to help me with various things…even though we are pretty much using the relaxtion/sleep type ones. like I mentioned earlier I would love to be able to get a diffueser for the living room now to use the rest of my oils in.
The only complaint that I have is that the buttons are a tiny bit hard to push when you are in the dark – and I have to roll over to get to it from the bed. I think a remote would make this thing 100%Â + for me. I just would like an easier way to change things is all!
Here are some pics and a video
I really really look forward to relaxing and enjoying this HoMedics Soundpa Slumber Scents in the future, and maybe even expanding my collection with something similar in the living room 🙂
