Ever Since David and I got married in June of 2007 we have pretty much either watched tv by either watching tv series on DVD’s, or by some means of streaming service. I know it sounds funny looking back but we didn’t even have the internet believe it or not when we first got married- and even when we did finally get it (after I got sick and tired of going to the library for only 1 hour a days worth) it was still dial up! I have always been one of those people who say I could def. live without tv vs the internet- but that is mostly because I depend on my internet for my tv!
We have at a few points had cable (and a very disastrous satellite experience at one point) but our cable we can do month to month- which the last time we had it I know that for the last 2 months we had it, it was never turned on! We were trying to catch our billing cycle and cancel it at the right time and it was a pain! Streaming options now a days are so multiple that we really don’t have any reason to have cable anymore even for David watching football or racing.
One of my first experiences with a streaming player was actually with a Roku but over time ours got old and we went with other options for various reasons, but I had hoped that we could eventually get another one, so I was more than excited when they offered me to get to review a Roku 4 to review !
The Roku 4 Streaming player in case you didn’t know is an awesome way to stream all kinds of different things to keep you entertained even including games. There are many channels to choose from – many free and a few that you can supplement streaming services that you already pay for like netflix and hulu. You can also use youtube and my church even has a Roku channel which is handy as well.
I couldn’t begin to name all the types of channel options because there are over 3500! and then you can find codes and add channels off of various websites as well so- let me just say I have yet to have got the chance to go through the entire list of channels available as it is very very in depth. There is truly something for everyone! I am talking news channels, sports, music, etc!
Even for the most part if you find a channel you do have to pay for it can be purchased monthly/annually and in comparison to cable would be very modest. There is actually a channel on there I saw to help with sleeping and it is like a sound spa and if I can find it back I am going to check it out!
Since receiving my Roku 4 for review, they have released more updated versions of the devices, but the roku 4 compares in price and options with the Roku Ultra– the only difference in that one and mine is the ultra is that the ultra has a night listening mode which adjusts the audio for volume consistency and it is HDR compatible. If you are a tech specs kind of person you can find all the ones you can need on that page!
One of my absolute favorite things about my Roku 4 that is different than past models is the remote! There are a couple of differences but I Have to start with my absolute favorite- You are able to plug your headphones into it for private listening! It even comes with a pair of ear buds!
This is a GREAT thing in my world because- I love to watch tv after David goes to bed but he is one of those people who swear it bothers him (though, i,n my opinion I think he just might not really be ready to go to bed) if I stay in the bedroom to watch tv and I hate having to get up and come in the living room because the bed is just so much more cozy and relaxing! This way I can plug in- he puts on his eye mask my mom made him and I can watch tv till whenever!
A few other awesome remote related features include point anywhere, popular streaming channel shortcut buttons and gaming buttons and voice search! There is also a lost remote finder where you can just touch a button on the player!
I absolutely love my ROKU 4 and I do hope to add an additional roku player- which will very likely be the ultimate to our living room to get rid of what we currently are using (I won’t mention it by name but I am very much over it! it freezes and glitches all the time) I also have considered a Roku tv maybe for our extra bedroom when I do it up as a office again sometime in the future – that way if I do work in there I won’t feel cut off from the entire world /when we might have someone spend the night who would enjoy staying up a bit longer.
