I have always been a person when it comes to food that likes really simple things (I know you thought I was going to talk about how weird/picky/my food allergy thing!) but I like simple things, and then if you just put a tiny twist on something common or simple I think that is awesome! When I was putting together my Myrtle Beach trip, I got connected to the lovely people at Croissants Bistro and Bakery, and I was happy that I did!
Now…I will get into that whole thing about how I am considered a picky eater -just in case you might be new around here an not now- I am allergic to a ton of random things, I also don’t eat certain things because of religous reasons (mostly not that I still go to that church, I just don’t have the desire to eat them), and by the time people get through that list they don’t even care that I am just like other folks and have things that I don’t like to eat just like everyone else- so this has dubbed me as being picky!
I promise though, I really am not – I just kind of know what I like and I don’t stray from it. I also tend to always order the same thing when I go somewhere. I also really don’t try a whole lot of new places! Believe me I scoured the menu way before I even got in touch with Croissants Bistro & Bakery! Oh, and if you couldn’t tell.. I liked what I saw 🙂
I don’t think that there is anywhere I have saw anything about Croissants that has anything negative! It is owned by this wonderful gal named Heidi Vukov, and I actually saw her on Beach TV (which is the local beach related channel that we watched at the beach + I downloaded it for my roku!) She not only has Croissants (2 locations!) but also a restaurant called Hook & Barrel! I not only saw her on there, but I saw a countdown of the 5 best dessert places at Myrtle Beach and Croissants was on there!
Heidi is originally from Pennsylvania, and she actually opened Croissants in 1995 shortly after she moved to Myrtle Beach(which means it was there when I went as a little girl!)She has also been named South Carolina Restaurateur of the year. She has a husband Gary, and 4 Children who are in different places!
Now, you know I mentioned how there are 2 locations? Well..generally that means business is really good right? I will tell you that I am glad that when we arrived (we were early believe it or not) that we would have likely had to wait longer if we hadn’t had a reservation- we were at the new location and it was crazy busy- I mean as a owner I know that is a great “problem” to have especially at lunch time!
We got to sit for a few minutes up front and look around a little bit at the desserts, the goodies for sale (I seriously wish I had extra money- Heidi has a cookbook called “Bonjour Ya’ll ” and I am a huge cookbook person! and there was a tea towel with that same expression and that would have been amazing for my mom!)
I took a picture of the light fixture, and it was quite a hit on my facebook page so I have to share it here too of course!
Croissants had this sort of fancy but intimate feel if that makes sense? I mean you could totally show up in jeans (we did!) but you felt like you were somewhere special!Everyone was very friendly and attentive too!
Here are some pics that I took while we were waiting to order/ waiting on our food. I actually had planned originally to get the chicken salad croissant, but I actually ended up changing my mind, but I’ll get there! There is so much to choose from whether you are just coming in to grab a coffee /something sweet or wanting something with a breakfast feel to it.. and you can even order really awesome cakes and such too!
We both ordered sweet tea, and I am not sure what was different with it exactly, but it was different and it was darn good! We were both bragging about it! It didn’t take us long to decide what we wanted and then we got our drinks fairly quickly and our food as well!
I ended up being an odd ball and ordering the French Dip sans Cheese (ha ha you all know me and cheese. I always try to just tell my server hey, I am really weird , I don’t eat cheese lol) and David ordered what I had originally planned to order – the chicken salad croissant! Oh and we both got the home made chips- which were crazy good and I have never had home made chips that were waffle ones, so that was really cool too!
This is my very yummy french dip sandwich that they were nice enough to make without cheese for this weird little girl right here. I also have to say that because of my little panic attack the day before I hadn’t really ate anything since Monday evening and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to eat or not- just as soon as this came out I knew I would be able to eat finally and scarfed down half of it 🙂 I took the other half with me back to the hotel and had it later – they even had a cute little cup to put the au jus in so I could heat it up in the microwave later 🙂 Oh- and the bread was SO YUM! I think I make a decent french dip sandwich until I had this. Put me to shame I tell you!
This is David’s Chicken Salad Croissant- I mean how do you go to somewhere with the name Croissant and not eat one right? 😉
I actually tried a bit of it, and I am- OK PICKY… about Chicken Salad. I pretty much only like the way my mom makes it. …David wanted me to try it and I was like it doesn’t have anything “weird’ in it does it. He knew I meant like fruit or nuts or something – but this didn’t and it was REALLY good! The only thing I wish they would have had with it- if I had ordered it- is just because I have a thing for chicken and PICKLES.. A really yummy pickle would have been great 🙂 Oh and it had tomato on it and it was VERY good (I generally never eat a tomato in a restaurant, and neither does David so.. that is saying something!!)
Now, I am not one much for sweets, and since I hadn’t felt so well there the day before I didn’t really want anything but now- it was like turning David loose in a literal candy store! He knew that had Macaroons, and I don’t know why he thought he would get anything any different-but.. he just told them to bring him a couple after he got up and looked at the dessert case. They brought him 6, so that was sweet (literally right!)
(David took this pic… he didn’t quite zoom enough and I planned to fix it but.. it is fine lol)
We had them in a cute little box that we took back to the hotel and while I was napping.. David ate them all so I didn’t really get to try them! I am thinking since I didn’t nap very long they must have been really good. I am actually surprised that he didn’t eat them in the car (it is a big joke about not being allowed to eat in the car because David is so nit picky with keeping it clean)
Croissants Bistro & Bakery is somewhere I am def. keeping in mind for our next trip to Myrtle Beach. It is likely somewhere that I would have picked to eat anyways because I do love things like sandwiches and David likes sweets a lot… I hope that next time we are in town we can stop in and have a great time again, and I hope that maybe I will be able to try something sweet too! I truly love the hospitality, the ambiance and of course the food! Def. high on my list of awesome places that I want to visit again! Oh and I will have to take some extra money to grab that cook book and tea towel 🙂
